The process of adoption brings families together, offering children a chance at love, stability, and a bright future. Every year, more than 250,000 children enter foster care, yet not all find permanent homes. For one lucky 5-year-old in Bernalillo, New Mexico, that dream became a reality when he was officially adopted. In a touching moment captured on video and shared by USA TODAY, the young boy surprised everyone in the courtroom with an emotional declaration of love for his adoptive mother, Jennifer Hubby.

When the judge invited anyone in the room to speak, the little boy eagerly raised his hand.

"I wanted to say that I love my mom so much and she's the best mom I ever had," he said.

His heartfelt words moved everyone in the courtroom, including Hubby, who was visibly emotional. As she fought back tears, her son wrapped her in a loving embrace. Even the judge couldn’t help but react to the touching moment.

"Oh my gosh. Well, you know what. It's important to tell people you love them and that they care about you. So, you're a lucky guy." — Judge

She then added, "I am glad you love them. That's what we're supposed to be doing. It's a good thing."

With those words, the judge walked over to finalize the paperwork. Once everything was signed, she congratulated Hubby, marking the end of a long journey to adoption.

Hubby later shared that adopting Cameron had been her dream since the day he was born. However, the adoption process was long and expensive, requiring years of financial preparation and legal proceedings before the family could officially welcome him as their own.

A family's love makes it all possible

In a heartfelt Facebook post (now deleted), Hubby expressed how much the adoption meant to her, but she made it clear that none of it would have been possible without her wife, Kimberly.

"I have officially adopted Cameron," she wrote.

In another post, she highlighted Kimberly’s unwavering support, writing, "NONE of this would be possible without my beautiful wife."

"None of this would have been possible without Kim courageously standing up and saying she agrees and supports this adoption. A mother protecting her son. That’s what she did for us." — Jennifer Hubby

Hubby explained that while much of the focus was on Cameron, Kimberly’s dedication and hard work made their family's dream come true. She emphasized how her wife tirelessly provided for them, ensuring they had the stability needed for adoption.

The power of adoption and love

The emotional courtroom moment is just one of many stories highlighting the transformative power of adoption. Another heartwarming video making the rounds online captures the love between a newly adopted child and her mother.

Two-year-old Amaris Traversy, who had been placed into foster care at birth, was attending a school concert with her preschool class. While the other children sang, Amaris couldn't take her eyes off her adoptive mother, Genevieve Traversy, in the audience.

She repeatedly mouthed the words "my mommy" while beaming at her, unable to focus on anything else. Her journey hadn't been easy—when she first joined the Traversy family at 18 months old, she was fearful of people and hesitant about physical affection. But with love and patience, she began to trust, realizing she was finally in a safe and caring home.

Now, Amaris is thriving—she's reading, attending school, and even doing gymnastics, proof of how much a nurturing environment can change a child's life.

These stories serve as a reminder of the impact that adoption can have, not only for the children but for the families who open their hearts and homes. Every child deserves to feel safe, loved, and cherished, and thanks to people like Jennifer and Kimberly Hubby, and Genevieve Traversy, more children are getting that chance.

And the brothers had an emotional reunion that was shared on social media.

"Blake is in his second semester of college, and being away from home can be hard. When he told us he was feeling anxious and overwhelmed, we didn’t even think twice—we jumped in the car and drove 286 miles just to be there for him," she wrote in the post's Instagram caption. "To remind him he’s not alone. To give him words of encouragement. To wrap him in a hug that says, we see you, we love you, and we’re always here for you."
