When wandering through a calm residential area, anyone who sees a pooch casually chilling on a rooftop would probably do a good old-fashioned double take. Worried passersby might even knock on the door, warning, “Hey, I’m not sure if you noticed, but your dog is on the roof.”
Turns out, the homeowners are completely aware of their canine’s preferred vantage point. Their Golden Retriever, Huckleberry, apparently loves hanging out up high, no big deal.
To keep people from freaking out—and to stop the relentless door-knocking—the family posted a note spelling out Huckleberry’s strange habit.

According to the Reddit post, it reads:
“Huckleberry is living up to his name and learned how to jump onto our roof from the backyard. We never leave him in the backyard without someone being at home. He will not jump off unless you entice him with food or a ball!
We appreciate your concern but please do not knock on our door... we know he’s up there! But please feel free to take pictures of him and share with the world! #hucktheroofdog.”
Naturally, they wrapped it up with a cute hashtag for all those social media posts. Interestingly, the note points out Huck might jump off the ten-foot drop if someone dangles a snack or ball, yet doesn’t exactly discourage folks from prompting him. Perhaps the golden daredevil has perfected his landing technique!
Although it sounds wild, it’s apparently not that rare; there’s an entire Reddit community, r/dogsonroofs, celebrating pups who’ve discovered the joys of elevated real estate. And it’s exactly what you’d hope for—dogs. On roofs.
