When Olivia Walsh posed with her boyfriend Gavin Hulberg at the Georgia Aquarium’s beluga whale exhibit, she had no idea she was about to be part of one of the internet’s most heartwarming viral moments.

Gavin, with the help of the aquarium staff, planned the perfect surprise proposal in front of the beluga tank. What neither he nor Olivia could have expected was the reaction of Qinu, a 16-year-old beluga whale who appeared equally stunned.

As Gavin got down on one knee, Qinu floated into view, her jaw dropping in what seemed like disbelief. Her perfectly timed reaction was captured on video, which Olivia later shared on TikTok with the caption, “The most perfect proposal I could've asked for.” The video has since garnered over 7 million views and countless comments.

“Even the beluga was shocked!”

The video has sparked a wave of joy and humor across social media, with viewers projecting their own playful thoughts onto Qinu’s reaction.

  • “The beluga NEEDS to officiate the wedding now,” joked u/isa.
  • Play-Doh’s official account commented, “Beluga has to be invited to the wedding.”
  • u/Bob summed it up best: “Even the beluga was shocked 😭.”

Other users chimed in with their interpretations of Qinu’s reaction:

  • “The beluga was like: 'OH MY GAWWDDD,'” wrote u/Els.
  • u/Citali hilariously added, “The beluga: .O.”

A natural reaction

According to People, where the story was first reported, Qinu’s reaction was entirely unplanned. Katie Lorenz, associate curator of mammals and birds at the Georgia Aquarium, confirmed that “Qinu’s behavior at the window was her own—she was not intentionally trained to have any type of ‘reaction.’”

For Olivia, who has been a beluga whale training intern for three months, the proposal couldn’t have been more special. In a TikTok reply, she shared, “My fiancé is the most thoughtful person!! He knows how much I’ve loved working with the whales & truly made it the most special moment.”

Internet takes a deep dive

The video has inspired conversations not only about the proposal but also about the ethics of keeping animals in captivity. On Instagram, some commenters voiced concerns:

  • “So wrong to keep a magnificent animal like that in a tank… shame!!!” wrote @alinasaballos.
  • @naturaleclectic added, “Nothing cute or adorable about these sentient creatures being kept confined in glass houses for human amusement.”

Still, many viewers found joy in the moment:

A viral star is born

Qinu’s viral fame has also reignited interest in the Georgia Aquarium. For those who want to visit Qinu or catch a glimpse of her playful personality, the aquarium offers a live beluga whale webcam and behind-the-scenes moments on their TikTok and Instagram accounts.

As for Olivia and Gavin, this proposal is one they’ll remember forever—and they might even have a certain beluga whale as a special guest at their wedding.

Her baby was pronounced dead. What happened when she held him stunned the room.

Life rarely gives us the storybook moment where darkness turns to triumph—but it does happen. Kate and David Ogg had such a moment. The Australian couple welcomed premature twins into the world on March 25, 2010, but their joy quickly turned to heartbreak when doctors told them that their baby boy, Jamie, hadn’t survived. What happened next would become a story of love, resilience, and the extraordinary power of a mother’s touch.

Kate and David had been ecstatic to learn they were expecting twins, but their excitement was overshadowed when the babies arrived prematurely at just 27 weeks. Doctors worked tirelessly to save them, but after 20 minutes of efforts, Jamie was pronounced dead. Devastated, the medical team placed his tiny body on Kate’s chest so she could say her goodbyes.

She offered a homeless man some pizza—he was actually a Hollywood star in disguise

A simple act of kindness turned into an unforgettable story for one woman and her family while visiting New York City. Karine Gombeau, a French tourist, was exploring the city with her husband and teenage son when she spotted a man rummaging through a trash can near Grand Central Terminal. Moved by what she saw, she decided to offer the man some leftover pizza.

"He should have my pizza instead of going through that bin."

What she didn’t know? That “homeless man” was actually Hollywood legend Richard Gere.

Why you look great in the mirror but awful in photos, according to science

The morning after a wild night of partying, the biggest fear often isn't regretting what you said, but how you'll look in your friends' tagged photos. Even if you left the house feeling like a 10, those awkward group selfies can make you feel like a 5, making you wonder, "Why do I look different in pictures?"

This strange phenomenon, amplified by selfies, is making people question their own mirrors. Are pictures the "real" you or is it your reflection? Have mirrors been lying to us this whole time??

Teacher’s viral fake baby assignment sparks total student panic

Students at Chippewa Secondary School in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, are learning the trials of parenthood with fake babies. If you didn't do this kind of thing at your school, it's basically an attempt to terrify teenagers into never having a child.

As you can imagine, it's not going very well. Teacher Andrea Lefebvre took to Facebook to share some of the hilarious texts she'd received from students about the babies, ranging from teenagers asking if they can stash their baby in their bag, or if they can turn it off.
